Feminine x Military

You guys know how much I love my fishtail skirt. It’s the ultimate feminine item that most people my age wouldn’t bother to try (unless it’s a wedding gown of course!) But I’m always keen on putting together that everyday-appropriate feminine look. To balance out the femininity, I chose to go with a shirt with military print. The silver accessories add modern chic factor to the look. The boxy shoulder bag is my newest purchase this season. It definitely helps to balance the curves of the fishtail skirt. And the faux fur should pad is just cute. Thinking to do a Part 2 of this feminine x military look. Stay tuned!

It’s a midwest kind of style.

Me and fellow blogger Sam went on a style hunt to Midwest Vintage last Friday. It is a trade showroom-turned clothing store specialising in vintage fashion and recycled designs with 18 years of history. If you live in Hong Kong and somewhat style-conscious, I’m sure you’re familiar with this brand.

Both Sam and I put together three outfits with items from their store. It’s a little pause to my regular outfit posts and I hope you enjoy it! (I’ll put a link to Sam’s outfits once she has them posted.)

The shop has a lovely selection of original handbags and accessories of great quality. I’ve never seens such a big collection of clutches anywhere else in Hong Kong. As a hopeless clutch addict I was feeling a bit dizzy : P The first outfit is my favourite. I had my eyes on this poncho/shawl for a while now. It has this lovely peacocky colour and fringe details, a perfect statement piece.

The second outfit is boyish from head to toe. Sam and I had a great time exploring the menswear section. Not only is it three times the size of the womenswear section, it also has a great selection of clothing that would fit us girls perfectly. (Well Sam’s 5’8, but I’m only 5’3, not a bad news, huh!?) I bought the plaid shirt and the cargo pants because they are just the perfect staple pieces to add to my overly girly closet. Oh and these really cool military surplus boots come in almost all sizes at a affordable price.

The third outfit is a little bit out of my style comfort zone, but I gave it a try anyways and I love it. This really cute dress is one of their vintage recreations, aka the First Edition. It was made from a vintage three-button Polo shirt, cut and reshaped into a sleeveless mini dress.  We also spotted some Dries Van Noten-ish jackets which were recreated from vintage biker jackets and sweaters. If you are one of those who likes the idea of eco-friendly and creative recycling, definitely check out this line.

Oh this is on the front page of Chictopia today! Thank you Chictopia!

Thank you girl, can’t wait to see yours outfits!

Midwest Vintage is located in the Tian Hau area, there’s a well illustrated map on their website so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find them (unless your sense of orientation is even worse than mine..) If you still haven’t had a chance to visit their store, here is a sneak peek.

Or like their Facebook Page to get updates and special offers. (An online shop is not yet available but according to the owner, it’s on the to-do-list.)

Have a lovely day : )

Layering with Parka.

Layering with Parka.

Photographs by dear mom : )

(Zara parka, Monki denim shirt, Vintage mens plaid shirt from Prague, Jeffrey Campbell wedges and Topshop hot pants.)

Lately I’ve been trying different things out, for example, a parka. I know it sounds ridiculous, but this is the first time I put on a parka (mainly because my mom used to call it the homeless jacket).  It’s so versatile and comfortable I don’t ever want to take it off again. (Which makes me wonder if the homeless people actually put on their parka before or after they became homeless.. you see what I mean?) – Alright, that’s a lot of useless information.
Back to the outfit, I’m wearing the parka over a denim shirt over a plaid shirt. It’s a bit bulky to layer on three button-up tops so I went bare-legged to balance it out (and in case you’re wondering, I had pants on!) I hope you enjoy this post!

I really like the whole sportswear trend, I’m not a sporty girl but it looks fun and chic. My outfit was pretty much inspired by the Dior Spring 2011 opening look by Karlie Kloss, minus the flirty sailor effect. (The fact that there won’t be another Galliano+Karlie Kloss opening for Dior is killing me… ) I’m also loving this sportmax coat, and the flat platform sandals and knitted socks combination by Michael Kors. (Angelica if you’re reading… it’s just a personal taste thing ; ) I love your blog!)

Jean Greige is probably my new favourite in the style blogosphere cause she’s a natural. Love her shoes and ankle socks in this outfit! (Go to her blog now for this really fun DIY turbeanie tutorial!); Don’t know about you guys, but I’d been following The Vintage Society, Beth’s “previous” website, for many years before she started B. Jones Style. She’s such a inspiration for me, and this army green maxi looks perfect on her; I love how Hallie can pull off such a huge amount of leopard prints. It’s very lovely photo, and you know what!? Chinese girls are pretty amazing : P
